One CAT4 incident of armed robbery against ships in Asia was reported to ReCAAP ISC.
The incident occurred on board a barge towed by a tug boat while underway off Tajung Setapa, Johor, Malaysia, in the Singapore Strait (SS) on 17 September.
ReCAAP ISC is concerned with the continued occurrence of incidents in the SS. With this incident, a total of 41 incidents were reported in the SS since January 2022.
The Centre advises ships to continued to exercise enhanced vigilance when transiting areas of concern, including the Singapore Strait and the Sulu-Celebes Seas.
Recommendation
Ship master and crew to report all incidents of piracy and armed robbery against ships to the nearest coastal State and flag State, exercise vigilance and adopt appropriate preventive measures taking reference from the Regional Guide 2 to Counter Piracy and Armed Robbery Against Ships in Asia.
