Two consecutive months of growth in the management of goods handled at Valenciaport’s docks. After accumulating half a year of negative records, the Statistical Bulletin of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) shows in October (and for the second consecutive month in 2023) positive data.
As the Port reported, on analysing the balance of the month of October in the Statistical Bulletin, it can be seen that the growth in traffic in Valenciaport responds to the increase in the management of the total of general goods, totalling 6,010,662 tonnes managed (+7.84%) and also of bulk cargo, which has accumulated in October 2023 a total of 793,337 tonnes (+1.01%).
The growth of rail transport is one of the pillars of the APV’s environmental strategy as it reduces emissions associated with logistics and adds up to achieving the Valenciaport 2030 objective: Zero emissions. For this reason, the increase of +5.37% in the tonnes of goods transported by this means of transport in the first ten months of the year is very good news. A total of 2,690,753 tonnes entered and left the Valencian docks by rail: 199,895 TEU’s have been moved, +2.40%.
In parallel, the latest Statistical Bulletin published by the PAV shows that throughout the year the number of vehicles transported by rail traffic has grown significantly (+8.63%) to reach 533,610 units. And ro-ro traffic (short sea shipping services for roll-on/roll-off cargo) accumulated a growth of +2.04% in 2023, which means a total of 11,207,432 tonnes handled.
As explained, the number of total passengers (cruises and regular lines) has also grown by 14.71% in the last ten months, which means a total of 163,304 cruise passengers and 15,096 people who have travelled on regular lines with the Balearic Islands and Algeria. This month – compared to the same month in 2022 – the number of cruise passengers has risen in the Port of Valencia by +37.99% while the number of regular line passengers has risen by +14.30%.
Egypt and Vietnam lead the way in traffic growth
Traffics with the Far East area grew again and the number of TEU’s handled during the last year reached 647,279 (+2.97%). China is Valenciaport’s main trading partner in 2023 with the management of 459,636 containers, closely followed by the United States with 303,853; although the countries that have grown most in their traffic with Valencia were Egypt (+26.52%), Vietnam (+26.23%) and India (+17.53%).
Focusing on traffic by country in terms of tonnage, Italy continues to be Valenciaport’s main trading partner with 5,529,995 tonnes handled this year, followed by China with 5,241,617 and the USA with 4,766,866. Egypt achieved a growth of +30.26% and the increase in relations with Algeria, which accumulated a growth of +27.35% this year, stands out.
