According to IMB Piracy Reporting Centre, armed persons attacked and boarded an offshore tug, in Nigeria, kidnapped eight crew members and escaped.
The time of the incident, in early hours of April 19th, the ship was located 10.8 nautical miles south of Brass. The Nigerian Navy responded to the incident. One crew was reported injured and evacuated by helicopter.
The name of the tug is yet to be confirmed.
Another similar case was reported by IMB, on the same day, around 59 nautical miles off Brass, Nigeria. Nine pirates in a skiff approached and fired upon a crude oil tanker underway.
The crew members raised an alarm , fire pumps started and non-essential crew retreated to the citadel, while the vessel increased speed and conduct evasive maneuvers.
The skiff was seen aborting and moving away, when the Master communicated with the escort vessel . Crew and tanker are reported safe.
