US-based company developing emission control technology, Triton Emission Solutions Inc., has filed a patent application for its NJORD exhaust gas scrubber, which requires no chemicals, uses less water than other scrubbers and reduces energy consumption. It is also significantly smaller in size than others.
In order to prove the NJORD technology, the Company has built a fully functional prototype of the NJORD exhaust gas scrubber in Sweden. The tests conducted on the prototype successfully lowered SOx down to below the 0.1% legal limit for vessels operating within Emission Control Areas.
“With the NJORD, Triton has developed what we believe to be a ‘quantum leap’ in the exhaust gas scrubbing arena.” said Anders Aasen, CEO. He added, “This technology will allow ship owners to eliminate the cost and complexity of chemical handling and storage on board a ship, necessary to operate exhaust gas scrubbers currently available on the market”.
Additionally, the Company announced that in collaboration with a third-party company, their exhaust gas scrubber has been designed to incorporate and accommodate an optional waste heat recovery solution.
