The Republic of Haiti remains in a state of civil unrest, with violent manifestations developing across the nation, which have hindered operations in the port of Laffiteau, effective as of 10 July, the Swedish P&I Club informed citing data by E&M International Consulting.
The conflict made operations to be suspended on 10 July at the port of Port au Prince and the port of Cap Haitien as well. However the two ports are now open and operating, according to an official update of 11 July.
Now suspension remains effective for the port of Laffiteau until further notice, and any resumption will depend on the improvement of the conditions and cease of the riots.
We recommend that any members who call at Laffiteau(…) to avoid said ports or proceed with caution as the same remain without operations and therefore loading or discharging cargo at any of the three (3) will be limited.
The civil unrest follows anger over steep fuel price increases in the Caribbean nation, under an agreement with the International Monetary Fund.
