The 5th edition of the Sustainable Ocean Summit reached its end in Halifax, Canada. In the Summit, decision makers and high-level representatives from all the sectors of the Ocean Business Community discussed and decided on the future of the Sustainable Ocean Economy.
This year’s Sustainable Ocean Summit lasted three days and was hosted in the Marriott Harbourfront Hotel, gathering 230 participants of 28 different nationalities, including high-ranking executives, senior environment and sustainability officers.
Some of this year topics were about the theme “The Ocean Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 14): Business Leadership and Business Opportunities”: Arctic, ocean energy, shipping, marine sound, digital ocean, law of the sea…
“World Ocean Council wants to link the existing coordination initiatives towards a joint workforce between the maritime shareholder to build a Sustainable Ocean Economy” said Christine Valentin, COO, World Ocean Council.
From his part, Marc-André Blanchard, Canada Ambassador to the United Nations noted that more information is needed in order to ensure an ocean sustainable development. This can be achieved by raising awareness about the cost of doing nothing, he added.
Lastly, Minister MacLellan, Minister of Business, Minister of Energy, Minister of Trade, and Minister of Service Nova Scotia, stated that ocean has an enormous impact on our lives and he predicted that ocean economy will double in the next 15 years.
