The Ocean CleanUp project has conducted a series of 3D scale model tests at MARIN in preparation for the start of the large-scale cleanup of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in 2020
Working towards the deployment of technology in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in 2020, they have to maximize the Ocean Cleanup Array’s plastic capturing efficiency and ensure that it has the strength to withstand harsh oceanic conditions.
Ocean CleanUp engineers are tweaking the array’s design to meet these tough requirements, drawing on results from a series of scale model tests.
In November 2015, they initiated the next series of scale model tests at the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN). MARIN is a maritime research institute specialized in scale model testing for the Offshore and Naval industry.
