India’s Navayuga Container Terminal (NCT) reached a record as it handled 500.000 TEUs for the first time in a financial year. The milestone was achieved on March 27, with the jubilee TEU being handled on India-flagged containership SSL Kutch.
Specifically, NCT highlighted that the milestone was achieved by an almost 9-fold increase in the 5-year period starting from 58.577 TEUs in FY 2013-2014.
Mr. Anil Yendluri, Director & CEO, Krishnapatnam Port Co. Ltd. commented
NCT has taken giant strides in getting established as a Transshipment Hub on the East Coast of India and we are working towards making it the Hub port in the Bay of Bengal.
In addition, Mr Jithendra Nimmagadda, Chief Operating Officer, NCT, reported that the milestone wouldn’t have been possible without their collaboration with Shipping Lines.
He continued that the Terminal aims to expande its capacity from 1.2 million TEUs to 2 million TEUs by the end of 2019 to be ahead of the demand.
FY 2018-19 marked several developments at Navayuga Container Terminal:
