Romania and Mongolia are the latest countries to ratify the ILO Maritime Labour Convention, 2006. Currently, 70 countries in total have ratified this Landmark Convention.
On 1 September 2015, the Government of Mongolia deposited with the ILO, MLC 2006 . Mongolia, the 69th ILO member State to ratify the Convention, joins the global efforts to ensure comprehensive worldwide protection of the rights of seafarers and establish a level playing field for shipowners, thus protecting them from unfair competition on the part of substandard ships. While Mongolia is the largest landlocked country in the world, ships registered under its flag total more than 800.000 gross tonnage of shipping.
On 24 November 2015, the Government of Romania deposited with the Convention . Romania is the 70th ILO member State to have ratified ILO MLC, 2006. Romania has over 25,000 seafarers and a merchant fleet of 82,911 gross tonnage of shipping. It also hosts major sea ports along the Black Sea, including the Port of Constanta, which ranks among the first 10 European ports and intersects trade routes linking the markets of landlocked countries spanning from Central and Eastern Europe to Central Asia and the Far East.
