8th Singapore Maritime Week – from 7 to 14 April
The 8th Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) will take place from 7 to 12 April 2013. Organised by Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), SMW will once again gather the international maritime community in Singapore for a week of conferences, dialogues, exhibitions and social events.
Mr Lam Yi Young, Chief Executive, MPA said, “I am happy to note that SMW 2013 has once again received strong support from the maritime community. Some of the key events in this year’s SMW include the International Maritime Awards, the 7th Singapore Maritime Lecture, SeaAsia Exhibition and Conference, and the International Chemical and Oil Pollution Conference and Exhibition that will end with a full-deployment, multi-agency chemical spill exercise.”
7th Singapore Maritime Lecture
This year, Mr James Hughes-Hallett, Chairman, John Swire & Sons Limited, will be sharing his insights on strategic maritime issues at the Singapore Maritime Lecture. The 7th Singapore Maritime Lecture will take place at Shangri-la Hotel on 10 April. This annual high-level forum, attended by prominent personalities and decision-makers in the maritime industry, is by invitation only. Previous speakers include Singapore’s former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, Mr Nils Smedegaard Andersen, Chief Executive Officer of A.P Moller-Maersk Group and Mr Koji Sekimizu, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization.
Mr Hughes-Hallett joined the Swire Group in 1976 and assumed his current responsibilities in 2005.
