At one minute past midnight on the 4th January 2013, the Isle of Man’s Ship Registry was open to register one of the largest ships in the world, the Berge Neblina, being delivered to its owners from a shipyard in China.
The additional tonnage tipped to total tonnage over the 15 million Gross Registered Tonnage mark. As with all vessels built and delivered from shipyards in the Far East, the registrar at the Ship Registry was happy to work at a time which suits the signing ceremony in the Far East, which means the small hours of the morning in the Isle of Man.
“This is a service we offer, which very few of our competitors can match but is really appreciated by our clients” said Muriel Sweetman, who registered the ship.
The 15 million GRT mark is another milestone for the Ship Registry which continues to grow its tonnage as it receives more interest from operators in the Far East and a growing Asian client base.
They recognise the client-focused service levels and the cost advantages of registering large ships as well as the quality of the ships and operators using the Isle of Man.
