The IRGC Navy reported on 6th December that the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) had apprehended 34 crew members and impounded two ships that were smuggling over 4.5 million litres of petroleum in the Persian Gulf.
As informed, two ships that were smuggling 4.5 million litres of petroleum into the Persian Gulf have been captured by the IRGC Navy troops.
The IRGC Navy’s public relations office reports that 34 foreign crew members were also detained during the operation and turned over to the legal authorities to proceed with the proceedings.
The ships were apprehended on Abu Musa Island’s southern tip.
The event follows other smuggling vessel captures by Iranian naval personnel in the Persian Gulf’s shipping routes, which produce and transport a significant amount of the world’s oil.
Additionally, the IRGC’s Navy has successfully launched many strikes on foreign and Iranian vessels.
Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, the deputy commander for coordination of the Iranian Army, said in May 2022 that the nation’s naval forces had so far been successful in escorting and ensuring the security of close to 5,000 cargo and oil tankers.
In order to ensure the ships’ safe transit through Iran’s territorial seas, he said, the Iranian Navy has also successfully repelled many pirate assaults.
