After taking over the Port Everglades Auto Terminal mid-2016, the operations have grown by about 45 per cent in terms of volume throughput, the Horizon Terminal Services informed. In May and June 2017, HTS has contracted two new OEM’s for both inbound and outbound vehicle flows.
With the commitment of OEM volumes through the port, Horizon Terminal Services aims to build vehicle- processing capability, which is expected to be ready by year-end, in combination with an increase in terminal footprint. Florida East Coast Railway are at the same time commencing deliveries of auto racks in to Port Everglades, to the terminal.
Anthony Vrban, Vice President Operations says: “Through some infrastructure improvements and improved operational processes we have been able to maximize throughput capacity which has led to better capacity and a surge in volume. We now have a multi-ship operator presence through the terminal and four different trade lanes serving the port. We expect this to grow over the next 6-12 months’’.
The terminal is the main gateway for Caribbean and Central American exports and inbound traffic for the sizeable South Florida car market both for short and deep-sea trade lanes.
