Hanwha Ocean announced that it secured a contract valued at 1.24 trillion won ($916.1 million) to construct four liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers for an Asian shipping company.
Hanwha Ocean announced through a regulatory filing that it will construct the vessels at its shipyard located in Geoje on the southern coast. The company did not disclose the identity of the client or the expected delivery dates for the ships.
As explained, in the current year, Hanwha Ocean has secured orders totaling $3.27 billion for the construction of 12 LNG carriers, two very large crude carriers, and two ammonia carriers. This contrasts with its total orders of $4.1 billion for the entirety of 2023.
Hanwha Ocean plans to increase its annual LNG construction capacity to 24 ships by 2025, up from the current 22.
