Spain’s first floating wind platform was officially presented during an event in the Canary Islands Wednesday, after more than ten years of research and technological innovation.
Built and assembled in the Canary shipyard, the W2Power prototype is the first multi-turbine wind platform worldwide to reach this technological level.
This project is included in the Call ERA NET cound, Demo Wind CALL 2015, including participants INGETEAM; EnerOcean, Ghenova and TTI, Inc., and is co-funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 research framework.
It is namely co-funded by the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI) for Spanish partners, and by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) for the British partner.
The patented solution W2Power offers through two wind turbines of 6MW per platform, a greater power generation without the need to increase the use of steel in its construction, thus becoming the lowest cost floating solution for the generation of energy wind in deep water,
…said INGETEAM.
W2Power also allows, in countries like Japan where fishing is of special importance, the innovative incorporation in the platform of an aquaculture facility in the Shipyard.
The prototype will be installed in the PLOCAN Test Bank in the coming weeks.
