The Panama Canal Authority issued a video informing about LNG vessels transit since the canal expansion, noting that LNG consists a new market segment for the area. On July 25, 2016, the Panama Canal welcomed the first ever transit of an LNG vessel.
More than 100 LNG vessels have transited the new locks, which represents 8 percent of total transits through the Expanded Canal. 5.3 LNG vessels transit on average per week through the Expanded Canal.
