South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) has signed a deal for the construction of an additional LNG carrier, reaching this year’s orders for the company to 18.
DSME announced that the order has been placed from an unnamed Oceania company for an LNG carrier which is expected be delivered to the shipowner by the end of 2021.
Moreover, the company received a contract for the renovation and repair of three KDX-I class destroyers. The total value of the contracts is about $ 230million.
It was a good idea to have a sales strategy focused on high value-added vessels such as LNG carriers and special ships. We will do our best to achieve our order target until the end, and we will continue to do so next year.
An DSME official stated in the recent announcement of the company.

The new vessel will be a large LNG carrier with a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters. It will be equipped with a natural gas propulsion engine (ME-GI) and a full re-liquefaction system (FRS) which reduces the pollutant emissions by 30% or more, according to the company.
In conclusion, DSME has received orders of a total of 47 vessels worth US $ 6.81 billion this year, including 18 LNG carriers, 16 large-sized crude oil carriers, 16 ultra large containerships, and 6 special-purpose vessels.
