DSME cooperates with Korean Navy and Defense Acquisition Program Administration
On the 27th of November at the cutting shop, DSME held the steel cutting ceremony for the first 3,000 ton submarine.
Around 100 honored guests attended the steel cutting ceremony, including Mr. Ki Cheol Hwang, the Chief of Naval Operations.
DSME began submarine development and design work in 2007. In March of this year, DSME coordinated joint efforts with the Korean Navy and Defense Acquisition Program Administration to build a 3,000 ton conventional submarine. This cooperation pushed forward research and the development of 39 major pieces of submarine equipment such as a sonar system, fuel cells, and a propulsion motor.
DSME was handed down submarine construction technology from Germany in 1987. A short time later, DSME was recorded as the world’s first submarine export company by winning the Indonesian submarine construction contract. Currently, DSME ranks 12th in regards to autonomous submarine design and construction.
