Mainly, the composite index is up by 3.7%, this week, from 14 – 18 of January. In comparison to the same period in 2018, it has increased by 21.7%.

The average composite index of the WCI, assessed by Drewry for year-to-date, is US $1,745/40ft container, which is $236 higher than the five-year average of $1,509/40ft container.
Moreover, transpacific rates, based on Drewry’s composite World Container Index, increased by 3.7% or $63 to $1,752.97 per 40ft container.
Freight rates from Shanghai to New York increased by $271 to $3,245 for 40ft container.
Similarly, rates on Shanghai-Los Angeles surged to $2,274 per feu – a change of $344. Meanwhile, rates on Shanghai-Rotterdam decreased from $1,956 to $1,839 for a 40ft box. Drewry expects rates to soften next week.
