China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) and Guangdong Provincial People’s Government recently signed an agreement concerning LNG power conversion for inland waterway shipping.
In fact, their inked agreement will focus on the “Guangdong Inland Ship liquified natural gas (LNG) Power Transformation Project”.
Specifically, Guangdong Municipal People’s Government will run the initiative, which will be implemented by CSSC and CNOOC.
The project’s main goal is to promote conversion to LNG power for inland waterway vessels in Guangdong, especially for Pearl river region.
Based on the terms of the agreement, Guangdong Province will complete the LNG conversion of approximately 1.500 vessels, while construct 19 LNG bunkering facilities until 2025.
Concluding, the project is estimated to increase the LNG annual demand at 400.000 metric tonnes per year.
