China will base the rescue ship ‘Nanhaijiu 115’ to the Nansha Islands, showing its commitment to fulfilling its duty in the South China Sea. The ship will set sail for Zhubi Reef from Sanya, Hainan province, on Friday August 2 and it will be stationed there for an unknown period.
The vessel can conduct various missions, including search and rescue operations, emergency medical services as well as firefighting and oil spill cleanups, local media reported, while it can also adapt to different marine conditions.

China decided to base the ship on the Nansha Islands and reefs to improve the lives of people stationed there and improve their ability to cope with maritime security threats.
The Nanhaijiu 115 has a heliport that can accommodate medium-sized rescue helicopters and until now it has carried out over 110 rescue missions in the South China Sea.
In addition, China has taken other measures as well to enhance security in the South China Sea. Namely, during May, a Chinese-built tsunami advisory center for the region was launched in Beijing. The center issues earthquake and tsunami warnings for China and eight other countries in the South China Sea.
