The supremacy of Chinese shipbuilders was evident in the statistics for the first nine months of 2024, especially when compared to data from last year.
As reported by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the country’s shipbuilding output reached 36.34 million dwt during this period, marking an 18.2% year-on-year increase. During the nine-month period, Chinese shipbuilders secured new orders totaling 87.11 million dwt, which represents a 51.9% increase compared to the same period last year.
With shipowners increasingly seeking environmentally friendly solutions to lower emissions, the Ministry noted that China secured over 70% of global green ship orders in the first three quarters. China led the world in new orders for 14 of the 18 major shipbuilding categories, with shipyards surpassing their annual targets ahead of time due to rapidly increasing market demand, CCTV reports.
The latest figures from the Ministry indicated that China’s newbuilding orders for 14 different types of vessels continued to hold a top position worldwide.
