Chongqing Guoyuan Port to be largest inland logistics port in China
The second-phase in construction of Chongqing Guoyuan Port (the largest inland logistics port in China) was recently completed and has been put into trial operation, according to Chongqing news. It marks a new era in the region, utilizing open channels such as the golden waterway of the Yangtze River and Yuxin’ou (Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe) International Railway.
The Chongqing Port will providing an new logistics hub, and open up trade with Europe. Currently, the port has witnessed the completion and acceptance check of 12 wharfs in its second phase and expansion projects. The former project has been put into trial use with 4 berths in operation and is expected to be officially put into operation by the end of this year.
As the largest logistics port in Chongqing, the Guoyuan Port has been provided with 10 billion yuan in funding, with a 30-million-ton capacity. The phase Ⅰhas realized a total capacity of 2 million tons in 2010.
When the port is linked with the Yuxin’ou Railway in 2014, bulk cargos from cities in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River will be transported back and forth from the Guoyuan Port to Europe. The port will become an important hub for Liangjiang New Area’s opening of international trade to Europe, and the largest inland integrated port in China.
Chongqing will boost port expansion as Naxigou Port is to complete the phase Ⅱ expansion at the end of 2013; and after the phase Ⅲ expansion, to start construction in 2014, is completed, the port’s maximum handling capacity will be expanded to 7 million tons.
