Bringing new hope to the seafarers who have undergone huge trauma
The Bangladesh Shipping Ministry has recently issued a circular in which seafarers affected by maritime piracy will be exempted with special conditions to fulfil sea service requirements in order to appear for examinations. This will now enable the seafarers who have returned from captivity to appear for examinations being conducted by the Government of Bangladesh.
Seven Bangladeshi seafarers returned back from the captivity of Somali pirates in June 2014 and were also assisted with financial support to be able to support their family.
This notice has been issued by the Director General of Shipping, Bangladesh on the request of the Maritime Piracy Humanitarian Response Programme (MPHRP). Chirag Bahri, MPHRP Regional Director South Asia, while thanking the Government of Bangladesh said that this will bring new hope and enthusiasm to the seafarers who have undergone huge trauma in recent years. They have now a clearer path, provided by their Government, to again restart their lives.
MPHRP is also thankful to Mr Sajid Hossain, Commandant of Bangladesh Marine Academy, Chittagong for his continuous support to the affected seafarers.
