Shipping on the right course for the BWMC

The BWMC enters into force and takes effect on 8 September 2017. Under the Convention, ships trading in international waters will need to ensure they are fitted with a ship-specific Ballast Water Management System, according to the agreed implementation schedule, Mr. Peter Hinchliffe, Secretary General, ICS says. To spur greater trust in ballast water systems, the ICS has also been collaborating with the IMO to ensure a more rigorous type approval process exists.

New Year’s Resolutions from ICS

Mr. Peter Hinchliffe, Secretary-General, ICS has responded to GREEN4SEA questions providing an overall forecast for the marine environmental developments in 2017. Mr Hinchliffe said that one of the most difficult issues facing ICS is to develop a widespread response to the growing call at IMO for commitment with the Paris Agreement and wished for all stakeholders in the supply chain to become eager to share the burden and the responsibility for a better marine environment.
