Marcelo Covelli

Marcelo Covelli is the National Director of the Marine and Inland Waters Investigations Directorate of the Transport Safety Board (Junta de Seguridad en el Transporte) of Argentina.
Overseas Captain and Bachelor in Maritime Transport graduated from the Escuela Nacional de Náutica Manuel Belgrano.
He sailed in vessels of the national merchant navy, was technical advisor of the Prefectura Naval Argentina in the Navigation and Maneuvering Specialty. He is the author of several technical articles on navigation published in the Coast Guard Magazine, in the Safety Magazine of the Transport Safety Board and in weekly magazines of the sector. He was awarded the first annual APTA-RIZZUTO prize by the Argentine technical and specialized press as author of the best scientific article of 2005.
He was Manager of Port Operations, OPIP and OPR in the Ports of Campana, San Nicolás and Ramallo for the company LOGINTER S.A.
He worked as a research and development analyst and instructor in Navigation Simulators and VTS in Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Paraguay and Colombia and also as Academic Director of the Omar Rupp Maritime Training School.
He is currently working as coordinator of courses and research at the Maritime Simulation Center Doctor Manuel Belgrano.
He was appointed by the Argentine Congress as the only civilian member of the group of technical consultants of the Bicameral Investigation Commission for the Sinking of the Submarine ARA "SAN JUAN".
He was appointed by the President of the Argentine Nation as the first National Director of the Marine and Inland Waters Investigations Directorate of the Transport Safety Board, where he continues to serve at present.
He is the technical representative of the Argentine Maritime Administration in the Subcommittee on Implementation of IMO Instruments belonging to the Maritime Safety Committee of the Organization and participates in the working groups by correspondence of said body of the International Maritime Organization.
He was appointed by the International Maritime Organization as a Marine Accident Investigation Reports Analyst, a role he continues to perform.
He is also a representative of the Argentine Maritime Administration to the International Forum of Marine Casualty Investigators and the American Forum of Marine Casualty Investigators.
