According to Reuters, Abdulmalik al-Houthi, the leader of Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis, announced that all ships heading to Israeli ports will be targeted, expanding their threat beyond the Red Sea region.
As explained, the group stated that this move is a show of solidarity with Palestinians amid Israel’s conflict with Hamas in Gaza. Al-Houthi called on countries like China, Russia, and those in Asia and Europe to refrain from transporting goods to Israeli ports.
The Houthis have previously declared that their primary targets are Israel and its allies, including the United States and Britain.
Houthi emphasized that everyone must stop transporting to the occupied Palestinian ports, warning that it is in the best interest of all companies to avoid routes to Israeli ports, whether in the Mediterranean Sea or elsewhere.
These threats from the Houthis have already disrupted a crucial trade route between Asia and Europe, increasing shipping and insurance costs and forcing companies to consider longer and more expensive routes around southern Africa.
