Russian natural gas major Novatek announced that its joint venture Yamal LNG has reached full capacity at the plant’s three LNG trains. The Yamal LNG project was implemented in record time and on budget with the launches of the second and third trains made ahead of schedule by six months and more than a year, respectively, the company noted.
Namely, Yamal LNG Project is embodied with three liquefaction trains with a total capacity of 16.5 mmtpa, or 5.5 mmtpa per LNG train. The project is supported by a fleet of Arc7 ice-class tankers supplemented by lower ice-class designated tankers to transport LNG cargos.

According to Leonid V. Mikhelson, NOVATEK’s Chairman of the Management Board,
Yamal LNG is currently the largest LNG project in Russia with an aggregate share of about five percent of the global LNG market
He continued stating that Yamal LNG represents a benchmark for the global oil and gas industry concerning success and implementation.
Mikhelson highlighted that the Yamal LNG project is taking the company one step closer to its strategic goal to produce 55 – 60 mmtpa by 2030.
In the past, Novatek launched all three LNG trains from Yamal LNG project more than one year ahead of the planned original schedule. The overall nameplate capacity of all three LNG trains is 16.5 mmtpa, or 5.5 mmtpa per LNG train.
