Novatek, announced that it completed the first ship-to-ship LNG transshipment in the area near the port of Honningsvag in northern Norway. The Arc7 ice-class LNG tanker ‘Vladimir Rusanov’ reloaded an LNG cargo which was delivered from the Yamal LNG facility at Sabetta to the lower ice-class designated tanker ‘Pskov’, which then sent the reloaded cargo to customers in North-West Europe.
According to Novatek, Russian gas producer, the ship-to-ship transshipment enables the company to optimise the transport costs by lowering the distance Arc7 ice-class tankers take and to make sure timely offloading of LNG from Yamal LNG project. The experience gained by this project will be used to the company’s future large-scale LNG transshipment projects in Kamchatka and the Murmansk region. Novatek aspires to construct an operating logistics chain for its LNG projects.
What’s more, Novatek has, previously, joined forces with YAMAL LNG aiming to start the initial production of LNG concerning its plans of the third LNG train. Novatek launched all three LNG trains from Yamal LNG project more than one year ahead of the planned original schedule.
Specifically, YAMAL LNG is an integrated project encompassing natural gas production, liquefaction and shipping. The Project consists of construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant with an output capacity of around 16.5 million tons per year, using the South Tambey Field as a resource base.
Finally, the field’s proven and probable reserves, by PRMS standards, are estimated at 926 billion cubic meters. Extensive transportation infrastructure is being built in the scope of the Project, including a sea port and the Sabetta Airport.
