Samsung Heavy Industries successfully completed the pilot test of its zero-carbon LNG regasification system named S-REGAS.
According to the shipbuilder, S-REGAS is the world’s first LNG regasification system for LNG floating storage regasification unit (LNG-FSRU) combined with cold power generation technologies.
As explained, the system is eco-friendly, while reduces the cost of generating electricity by applying ‘zero carbon’ cold and heat generation technology to the LNG regasification system.
Following the situation, Lee Dong-yeon, head of the shipbuilding and marine research center of Samsung Heavy Industries, noted:
The shipbuilding industry is also strongly required to expand the use of new and renewable energy power for carbon neutrality. It will be an important opportunity to announce that it is a safe and affordable eco-friendly solution.
Cold power generation refers to electric power generation using energy produced during the vaporization process of LNG, which is transported in a liquid state by cooling it to minus 162 C, without emitting carbon dioxide. The S-REGAS can generate 16-megawatt electricity, the company said.
