All dry bulk vessel operations at Haldia Port remain were suspended following the refusal of workers to perform their duties on 3 April after learning a supervisor had tested positive for COVID-19. However, work now continues from 7 April.
Despite the halt of operation, mechanical loading of thermal coal vessels was taking place without interruption.
The port conducted a sanitisation drive at Berth No.13 and adjoining areas including mooring ropes, jetty and MHC at Haldia Dock Complex on 4 April.
In addition, safety protective gear – such as masks, gloves and sanitisers – was also provided to the staff.
It is understood that authorities had appealed to staff, unions and stakeholders to return to work and resume operations which are essential to maintain supply lines. Nevertheless, none were willing to return to work.
Nonetheless, work has resumed at Haldia Docks on 7 April, with stevedores continuing operations onboard vessels at Berth No.4A, followed by Berths No.2 & 4-A.
