The world’s most powerful fully-electric ferry will soon start passenger operations. Namely, the Ellen E-ferry was christened by Danfoss Communications Consultant Christina Clausen, on June 1. The vessel has a 4.3 MWh battery pack.
Ellen E-ferry will be operating on a 22 nautical mile sailing between Denmark’s islands of Aero and Fynshav. This is 7 times the length of any other route that is currently served by an all-electric plug-in ferry boat.

The ferry ship is around 60 meters long, with a breadth of approximately 13 meters and is able to travel at speeds between 13-15.5 knots. Moreover, it can carry up to 198 passengers during the summer months, with this capacity reducing to 147 during the winter. It can also accommodate 31 cars or 5 trucks on its open deck.
Finally, it is equipped with a 4.3 MWh battery pack, which is the biggest currently installed for maritime use, while another first will be the fact that it is the first electric ferry to boast no emergency back-up generator onboard.
