STM published a video summarizing what has been done until now and what is to happen. Namely, STM aspires to enable a good port call, just-in-time arrival and a fast turnaround. Now STM has set the base and aims to develop in order to help shipping evolve.
Specifically, STM has an underlying interoperability which is based on:
- Global standards for ships and port actors;
- Global reliable infrastructure;
- Software and services using this ecosystem.

STM now wants to create the foundation for the future of maritime infrastructure, while several VTS manufacturers have built STM support in their systems.
Moreover, results have shown that all port actors will save about 10% of total manhours with STM portcalls, while some ECDIS manufacturers have developed STM functionality as part of their bridge systems.
Finally, STM wants to further develop its services to improve safety, efficiency and situation awareness.
