The passenger vessel Galápagos Majestic ran aground at the north coast of Santiago island in the Galapagos Archipelago, Ecuador, during the morning of May 31st, with 26 people on board. The vessel’s hull was breached in the bow area and started to list to starboard side.
The 26 people onboard the vessel used the two lifeboats to evacuate the ship.
The Ecuadorian Navy and Coast Guard came to the rescue, but were unable to save the vessel from running aground.
Thus, the vessel sank, along with 200 gallons of fuel still onboard. The vessel initially had 800 gallons in the tank.
Concluding, all 26 passengers were saved and transmitted to Puerto Ayora by the Ecuadorian Coast Guard.
