In this video, Maersk explains the complicated procedure of today’s container booking practices. As the shipping giant says, container booking can be a very complex operation, while many problems such as overbooking and change of fees come to add to the already challenging reality.
In order to prove its point, Maersk compares the container booking practice to a dinner restaurant.
The shipping giant says that ordering means lots of paperwork, which complicates things. Once the order is placed everything could seem fine but problems such as overbooking create challenges.
In such case, containers might be rolled, for this reason it is quite common to place extra orders, with the supplier not always aware of this fact.
In the meantime, the price might change or extra fees may be added.

Maersk launched this video in light of its new digital solution to address over bookings. Maersk Spot provides customers a cargo loading guarantee at a fixed price upfront. Maersk Spot is available on all trades, except in and out of US.
As Maersk said, when a booking is confirmed, the company commits to offer operational execution. This ensures that the issue of overbookings is addressed. In case of booking cancellations, fees apply at the customer’s charge. If cargo is rolled, then Maersk compensates the customer.
