As seen in the video below, the bunker tanker called Cap Pinede crashed into a breakwater at the Port of Marseille in France.
Although the cause of the incident remains unknown, the video shows that the vessel did not slow down.
It is believed that the collosion occured on June 15, 2020, as the Cap Pinede tanker was arriving at port.
Collision either between vessels or vessels crashing on ports, are a usual phenomenon that has a negative impact for the vessels, the seafarers onboard and the marine environment in case of oil spill.
According to Harry Hirst, Partner & Master Mariner, Ince & Co, if you had to categorize the root causes of most collisions today, you would come up with two broad categories:
- Poor lookout;
- Inappropriate avoiding action.
