The Ports of Auckland informed that it plans to launch a staged automation process, beginning with its Northern Berth which is due to start in February 2020. The port aspires to complete the infrastructure work, which is needed to apply automation, during 2019.
The plan is to have the whole terminal automated by April 2020, while Ross Clarke, rogramme Manager Port Systems, Ports of Auckland believes that by staging automation that way, a smoother operation will be ensured.
He also added that the authority’s plan for the rest of 2019 is to finalize the infrastructure work, that is needed in order for the port to be automation-ready.
The automation will include testing all the A-Strads and M-Strads on all the operations that will be necessary in automation operations.
Finally, the port’s Northern Berth will be fully automated and operational by February 2020, with the rest of the terminal being manual.
