In the morning hours of 7 September, the Maltese-flagged luxury yacht ‘Kanga’ suffered a major fire while off the cruise port of Dubrovnik, Croatia, with nine crew members and four passengers onboard.
Emergency forces responded to the accident and managed to rescue all the people onboard. Three firefighters sustained minor injuries at the scene from two explosions that were reported during the firefighting efforts.
International media suggest the Kanga to be a total loss as a result from the fire. Still smoking, the vessel was towed to the small harbour of Prapratno, where it will be further assessed.
The exact cause of the incident is yet to disclosed, but initial reports suggest an electrical failure triggered the fire.
The 40-metre-long yacht was launched in May 2018 at the Italian shipyard CCN.
