Hanwha Group has joined the World Economic Forum’s First Movers Coalition (FMC) to drive demand for greener shipping while developing key low and zero-carbon shipping technologies.
As informed, FMC Members become part of a wide ecosystem of partners advancing the supply, financing, and deployment of innovative emerging climate technologies via bankable projects and offtake agreements. Companies aim to make purchasing commitments that create new market demand for low and zero carbon fuels and technologies, in sectors with heavy emissions such as:
- Steel
- Cement
- Aluminum
- Chemicals
- Shipping
- Aviation
- Trucking
During the 2024 WEF Annual Meeting, Vice Chairman of Hanwha Group Dong Kwan (DK) Kim spoke on how Hanwha is innovating to change the game of maritime decarbonization. Hanwha’s strategy is also presented in the video bellow:
Our membership with the FMC will pave the way for new partnerships and pilot programs that enable collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including policymakers, customers, research institutes, and port authorities.

Hanwha also stated that sustained momentum can only be built through mass adoption and commercialization of newly developed technology, requiring a concerted effort between the public and private sectors as well as parties across the entire energy value chain.
