The ferry “Express Cantika 77” caught fire in the waters off off southwest Timor, near Batek island, Indonesia, on October 24.
The ferry was carrying 177 people on board at the time of the fire, while en route from Kupang to Kalabahi, Indonesia.
The ship was quickly engulfed in flames, while search and rescue agency of East Nusa Tenggara deployed inflatable boats and more than 50 rescuers, to evacuate 167 passengers and 10 crew.
Until now, it is not clear if the rescue operation was finished, or still continues.
However, reports claim that many or the majority of the passengers were rescued, and currently there is not information of casualties.
