Sources report that about 66 people suffered minor injuries when the fire broke out on July 31, at a massive ExxonMobil plant in Texas. Allegedly, the fire broke out at a polypropylene recovery unit where plastic is purified for production.
The Baytown complex is based on a 3,400-acre site along the Houston Ship Channel, some 25 miles east of Houston. The refinery at the site is able to process up to 584,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
CNN reports that the fire was extinguished during evening hours.
Later on, Natasha Barrett, ExxonMobil spokeswoman, stated to reporters
We realize the people who live here in Baytown and our surrounding communities are worried. We understand that and we’ve been working hour after hour to check on things, to monitor air quality.
Moreover, because of the fire, the city of Baytown issued a precautionary order to Shelter in Place due to the emergency at ExxonMobil Baytown Area, as shown herebelow
Concluding, the city of Baytown informed through its twitter account that the Shelter in Place has been lifted, and air monitoring did not detected any levels of concern.
