As the video shows, during the severe storm that struck northern Norway last week, high winds drove the Hurtigruten cruise ferry Nordnorge hard against a pier at the port of Bodø, Nordland during berthing.
The cruise ferry can be seen trying to deal with the severe weather conditions, but when it approached the dock it was visibly heeling to port. While the ferry was drifted beam-on towards the pier, it deployed its starboard side anchor.
The master of the ferry, Capt. Tormod Karlsen, reported to the Norwegian NRK that when they were entering the harbor the weather was quiet, but then followed strong wind gusts from the northwest. He added that to deal with this challenging situation, they just had to use the engines ‘for everything they were worth‘.
Moreover, in the video, two longshoremen can be seen backing quickly away from the edge at her rapid approach, then running forward to retrieve a heaving line from a crewmember on the bow.
