Carrefour, Dubai’s floating supermarket, was unveiled at Dubai Marina by Hani Weiss, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Retail. It will be operational six days a week, also depending on weather conditions and will be capable of serving yacht customers, jet skiers and even beach goers.
Namely, the floating supermarket will cater customers on jet skis and small vessels. This will be achieved by the shoppers voyaging close to an ‘Aqua Pod’ and make their order at the window. On the other hand, shoppers that have bigger vessels will be able to order by phone for delivery that will take approximately 45 minutes.
The ‘Aqua Pod’ is run by electric outboard motors that are recharged overnight, making it able to cruise up and down the Dubai coastline. The design includes a seabin that vacuums floating debris into a holding tank for disposal on land.
There is also an Aqua Pod application that customers can download to order online.
Moreover, the Carrefour supermarket provides a wide variety of goods, from snacks and fresh food to sunscreen and medicine.
Miguel Povedano, chief operating officer of Carrefour UAE, stated that it is the next step to serve the customers of Dubai’s coastline.
Finally, while Dubai is making its new steps, such as the floating supermarket, it has also experienced a rapid development with malls and shopping centres.
