With the International Day of Seafarer coming ahead on 25th June, IMO calls Member States to recognize seafarers as key workers and exempt them from the travel restrictions of the pandemic.
Despite the COVID-19 outbreak and the difficult working conditions that has brought, seafarers stayed on the job 24/7.
Just like other key workers, seafarers are on the front line in this global fight. They deserve our thanks. But they also need – and deserve – quick and decisive humanitarian action from governments everywhere, not just during the pandemic, but at all times.
…as IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim noted.
The Day of the Seafarer campaign (DotS) will be celebrating its 10th anniversary on 25th of June and pays tribute to seafarers, acknowledging their sacrifice and the issues they face.
Through this campaign, IMO aims to raise awareness on the crew change issue and thank seafarers for their contribution.
