Boskalis published a video presenting the steps of constructing the Port of Duqm in Oman; The Duqm project is a complex one, as it consists of a combination of dredging activities, building a quay wall, having a reclamation, compaction and design works, as Dirk Daan Visser, cost engineer of the project, noted.
A unique feature of this project was the dry pit part of it, which was a huge pit and the company faced a huge challenge to maintain the pit very dry.
The dredging project will enable the LNG tankers later on to access the berths.
Saskia Haas, Project controller
When I started here the project, there was no harbor, there was no jetty. We only had mud. If you see now, not even 1,5 years, 2 years later, there is a harbor.
New harbor facilities are created, providing Oman the chance to develop and grow more and become a shipping force and port hub as the country aspires to.
The final completion date for the project is April 2020.
