Certification during the COVID-19 pandemic is a procedure not to be missed according to NBKB. It is stated that although a company is yet not fined, and the insurance coverage remains an unclear path, it is important to continue your certification in a timely manner.
NBKB complies with Heath Authorities guidelines during the inspections. Yet, it is highlighted that the following measures are crucial for a safe inspection:
- Always keep the 1.5 metre distancing
- Wash hands before and after visiting onboard – see also 6 tips on how to be protected from COVID-19 –
- Clean as much as possible before and after the inspection
- Ventilate in advance and during the appointment where inspections are taking place
- Use your own pen
- Inform the other party when showing signs of illness
- Be careful with coffee machines for general use
- Wash cups and tableware before and after the inspection
- Provide visible onboard routing
Concerning the inspectors’ part, OCIMF recently published a bulletin, which gives guidance on Ship Inspection Report Exchange (SIRE) / Barge Inspection Exchange (BIRE)/ Offshore Vessel Inspection Database (OVID) inspections.
