Vopak launched a new service that will give the ability to tankers docking at its Singapore Sebarok oil terminal to refuel, as well as load or discharge cargoes at the same time, according to Reuters.
This new service will significantly reduce the time that is required to move tankers from the Sebarok terminal to specific anchorages in Singapore for bunkering.
Vopak stated that the new service is in line with Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore’s directive to improve port efficiency.
The concurrent bunkering can be a solution to the congested waterways of Singapore, according to Reuters.
Furthermore, oil and gas tankers are instructed to refuel at specific anchorages in Singapore, because of safety concerns that had risen, sources said.
Singapore sells an approximately 4.2 million tonnes of bunker fuels to more than 3,400 vessels each month in 2017 and is considered the largest refueling hub.
Vopak’s concurrent bunkering service resulted from the cooperation with BW Pacific, Sinanju Marine Services, and Unicore Fuel and is expected to expand to other Vopak’s terminals in Singapore as well.
