Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA) issued a technical alert to provide its position on the amended International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code (Amendment 41-22), which enters into force on 01 January 2024.
This Alert applies to all ships registered in the Bahamas to which the IMDG Code is applicable. The Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted amendments to the IMDG Code at its 105th session. The planned entry into force date for the amended IMDG Code (Amendment 41-22) is 01 January 2024.
Accordingly, The Bahamas has advised its early acceptance of the amended IMDG Code and has entered this in the IMO Global Integrated Shipping Information System (GISIS).
As stated in MSC.501(105), there is a transition period from 01 January 2023 to 01 January 2024 when both the amended Code (Amendment 41-22) and the existing code (Version 40-20) can be used.
This Technical Alert is valid until 31 December 2023.
