Netherlands-based Visser Shipping has signed a contract to outfit three container ships with scrubbers from Value Maritime, with an option for a fourth scrubber. The company’s fleet provides container transport throughout Northwest Europe.
We have been investigating scrubbers from their beginning and found the retrofit to complex and to expensive, with the scrubbers from Value Maritime installation is more simple and costs are more in line with the size of our ships,
…Visser Shipping said.
The scrubbers are set to be installed on Visser Shipping’s vessels between October and December 2019, to be ready before IMO 2020 sulphur cap goes into effect on 1st January.
With IMO 2020 sulphur cap implementation date approaching, the overall number of scrubber orders for container ships increased to more than 540 units, Alphaliner said this week. The orders have increased since Alphaliner’s last survey in November.
Swiss-based Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) is the leader with the total number of scrubbers ordered for its owned and chartered fleet now approaching an estimated 180 units.
