In the first two months of 2025, orders for 184 bulk carriers, tankers, containerships, and gas carriers were placed, shifting the trend compared to previous years.
According to VesselsValue’s monthly report, in both 2023 and 2024, bulk carriers and tankers dominated orders during this period.
However, this year’s order trends resemble those of 2021 and 2022, when containerships were the most ordered vessels.
Data show that orders were placed for 66 containerships (36%) in the last two months, while bulk carriers came in second place with orders for 61 ships (33%).
The dominance of containerships in vessel orders becomes even more evident when the value of orders is taken into account. So far in 2025, the value of containership orders has reached $7.9 billion, or 76% of the total funds allocated for bulk carriers, tankers, containerships and gas carriers orders ($10.4 billion).
